Heat the water and let the tea brew until it is really dark. Add the dried fruits to the tea, mix and let soak for an hour.
Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a loaf tin with parchment paper.
Using a strainer over a bowl, drain the fruits and reserve the rest of the tea.
In a separate bowl, mix together the fruits, egg, and sugar (optional: add the orange zest). Add in the flour, baking powder, and spices. Add 2 tablespoons of the reserved tea and stir until everything is well combined.
Place the mixture into the pre-prepared loaf tin and bake in the oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean.
